Last nights VP debate and the previous Presidential debate made me think. Here are some thoughts that you won't hear in the news.
Quote from The Constitution of the United States, Article I The Legislative Branch, Section 8 - Powers of Congress "The Congress shall have Power to lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States; To borrow money on the credit of the United States; To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;...To make all Laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution the forgoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any Department of Officer thereof."
#1 If the Constitution is correct, and I think it is, than 3 out of the 4 people running for the top two highest offices in our country were directly responsible for the mess that they keep telling us is "Bush's problem"! They passed the bills spending the money, sending the troops, declared war on Irak, declared war on the Taliban, allowed financial organizations to lend money unwisely, gave wall street the power to "melt down", in general THEY, CONGRESS, PUT US INTO THIS MESS WE FIND OURSELVES IN, and now 3 of them are saying we have a plan!!! Trust me!! I THINK NOT!
Quote from the Constititution of the Unites States: Article. 1, Section 7 Revenue Bills, Legislative Process, Presidential Veto: ...Every bill which shall have passed the House of Representatives and the Senate, shall, before it become a Law, be presented to the President of the United States; If he approve he shall sign it, but if not he shall return it, with his Objections to that House in which it shall have originated, who shall enter the objections at large on their Journal, and proceed to reconsider it. If after such Reconsideration two thirds of that House shall agree to pass the Bill, it shall be sent, together with the Objections, the the other House, by witch it shall likewise e reconsidered, and if approved by two thirds of that House , it shall become a Law. ..."
#2 If President Bush just signs things passed by the Legislative branch, or veto's them, and they pass with a 2/3 majority. He doesn't make the laws, how is it his fault? We need to start putting the blame where it belongs, on the makers and passer's of legislative law, the House of Representatives and the Senate! Lets quite hanging the blame on our figure head the President! His duty is "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." According to Article II section 2: "The president shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, ..." That is the duties of the President. If a law comes to his desk that goes against the Constitution his sworn duty is to veto it. As Commander in Chief he is to direct our military in defense of our nation and, if given the power by congress, make war on nations that would do us harm.
Senator Biden misstated something last night in his remarks during the debate. He stated that the vice-president just has the tie-breaker vote in the senate and should do nothing else in the senate. The Constitution states in Article I, Section 3: ... "The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote, unless they be equally divided.
The Senate shall chuse their other Officers, and also a president pro tempore, in the absence of the Vice President, or when he shall exercise the office of President of the Unites States."
To me that sounds like the vice President should be very involved in the Senate! I wonder why the Senate doesn't want him there?
IF WE ARE LOOKING FOR CHANGE IN OUR GOVERNMENT WE NEED TO CHANGE THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE AND PASS THE LAWS!
At least that is what I think
